Regent's Park Open Air Theatre
Regent's Park Open Air theatre, one of London’s landmark entertainment venues, has an illustrious history. Established over 85 years ago, it is one of the only two theatres that carried on playing through the war. The first ever Catering Manager was none other than Clement Freud. Lawrence Keal, who holds the position today, is well aware that visitors have high expectations when they come to the venue. With 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, he is all too aware of the challenges of meeting them, too.
“It’s a unique and magical setting. Dining with us is a special occasion for many of our guests. Service is built around the performance, so timescales for serving everyone are extremely tight. We need speed, ease of use and efficiency from our EPOS system. Handheld PDAs for ordering and a fully customisable till system has enabled us to make the most of a tight space. This has enabled us to expand the restaurant so we can now cater for 60 covers and provide a menu and service that justifies our price point. The EPOS system is integral to us being able to do this.”
“As for the bar, we only have an interval of 20 minutes to serve as many customers, and take as much revenue, as possible. This means the tills need to be fast and efficient. The kit is in storage for 6 months and then used out in the open air – so they need to be durable too.”
